Boston Musical Fund Society Orchestra is established.

(Nov.) A cooperative, it is formed by musicians to provide employment and establish a relief fund for its members. George James Webb is the conductor. John Sullivan Dwight subsequently describes the orchestra as “more numerous than select.” Its last concert is held at the new Boston Music Hall in April 1855.
